History of Northstone Gallery

Northstone Gallery is a new art gallery who's aim is to help promote North East based artists and their artworks to a global audience. The North East region contains an abundance of artists all at different stages of their careers and Northstone Gallery will hopefully help them on to wider recognition and greater things.

The gallery itself will be located in St Cuthberts in Gateshead, close to the Metro Centre and Newcastle City centre. St Cuthberts was designed by John Dobson, the North East's most famous architect, and the original stained glass, most of which survives, is by William Wailes, the most notable stained glass artist of his day, who's home was Saltwell Towers, in nearby Saltwell Park. The building is currently being restored to a high standard, and in addition to the gallery and exhibitions there will be a permanent display of the surviving stained glass as well as other notable stained glass windows. The building retains many of its other original features and it's character.

The building / gallery has been developed to promote the art works in a safe environment, one of our key aims being to ensure the safety of the public and art work on display.

We are sure that visitors to the gallery will not be disappointed, the building offers a unique combination of space and atmosphere that will enhance the viewing experience. The type of art work on display will be constantly changing and we hope to have exhibitions of particular types of art work and exhibitions relating to a specific artist.
